Venom & Black Cat Movies Are Maybe, Sometimes, Might Be In The MCU
During an interview recently, Amy Pascal (former Sony executive) and Kevin Feige (Marvel President) said that the newest version of Spider-Man could crossover into the stand alone Venom and Black Cat movies that were previously said to be in their own universe not connected to the MCU... confusing.
Pascal called the spinoff movies "adjuncts" which basically means nothing, but I have a feeling that it might be jargon for if these movies are good/popular, you bet your ass we'll have them fight Captain America. However, since Sony has a less than stellar track record making superhero movies, leaving them out in the cold for a trial period doesn't seem like the worst idea.
Confusing universes aside, keep in mind that the Venom movie has all the ingredients to be something decent. A bonafide superstar and incredible actor in Tom Hardy, a proven action/comedy director in Ruben Fleischer (Zombieland), and a decent writer in Jeff Pinkner (Amazing Spider-Man 2).
I think that if the Venom movie is bad, Marvel will stand by it's separate universe. If it's good and popular though, be prepared to see Dr. Strange running away from a big, scary symbiote in the near future.
