Original Stories Make This Weekend Worth While
In the new Hollywood, dominated by reboots, remakes, rebirths, recycled(es?) and any other "re-" word you can think of, this weekend is a breath of fresh air. Two movies take center stage during an off week for blockbusters and let you really just enjoy movies again.
Doesn't it seem like every time you go to the movies, you feel like you are taking a test? Should I know this person from the comics? Where was that person three movies ago? What's the overarching bad guys' name who I'm supposed to be afraid of but have no context?
Well, Ingrid Goes West and Logan Lucky have come to save the day. There's no source material, there's no sequels lined up (as far as I know) and that's a good thing. These two movies have a lot in common for being so different in style. Each has a great cast lead by a big name actor in an unusual role, and both are not necessarily commenting on, but at least acknowledging culture in two very different worlds.
